GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 16 • 18 April Wilson 25 G • 5-7 • Jr. Although she's been pretty steady for much of the season — Purdue is on pace to set a program low in turnovers — the last week was rough, with Wilson committing nine turnovers against only three assists. More than that, her shot's been off, hitting only two of her last 12 field goal attempts. Wilson's not been a deadly outside shooter, and probably won't be, but gener- ally she's an excellent spot-up shooter, good from about 15 feet and in. More often, she needs to find a way to get into that range. Ashley Morrissette 1 G • 5-9 • So. Morrissette's been more aggressive on offense lately, scoring 33 points in the last two games. Pur- due's needed more perim- eter scoring, and Morris- sette is trying to give the Boilermakers that. But the three-point percentage isn't high enough, prob- ably, to force opponents to consider it a big worry; Morrissette took 18 three-pointers in the last two games, but hit only four (22 percent), including 1 of 9 against Iowa. Andreona Keys 24 5-10 • G • Fr. Keys is in the starting lineup for now — her first career start came vs. Iowa — because of the ankle injury to Bridget Perry. Throughout the season, Keys has shown advanced maturity for a freshman, making few er- rors and wisely choosing her places to impact offensively. But without Perry, Purdue needs more. Against the Hawkeyes, Keys had nine points on only five field goal attempts, with a career-high seven rebounds, plus a couple steals and a couple assists in 26 minutes. Liza Clemons 23 F • 6-2 • Sr. Clemons has 27 blocks this season, only one short of her season career high set last year. She's tried to be more active around the basket, looking to reject more shots than she has before. And staying out of foul trouble, for the most part, has helped. Lately, too, Clemons has been solid on the glass, nearly recording double-doubles in the last two games, with nine and eight rebounds. Whitney Bays 32 F • 6-2 • Sr. (5) Bays has been outstand- ing, pushing her Purdue record for double-doubles to seven consecutive games. At times, she has to try to do too much offensively for the Boil- ermakers, who have few other consistent scoring options. It's caused games like Iowa, when Bays hit only three of her 14 field goal attempts. But 7 of 9 from the free throw line helped her to 13 points. Hitting double-digits in rebounding these days seem almost a given. Gold and Black's Women's Hoops Lineup The Starters Hayden Hamby 10 G • 5-7 • Jr. Hamby's having trouble scoring, and that's what Purdue needs her to do. She's scored only seven points in the last five games, being shut out in three. Hamby hit one of her three three-pointers against the Hawkeyes, breaking a two-game scoreless streak. Hamby's skill is in getting to the basket, but she's found that hard to do consistently in the Big Ten. Bree Horrocks 22 C • 6-5 • Fr. Purdue is playing Hor- rocks only in certain matchups, so she'll play one game — eight minutes against Mary- land — but then not in another, like against Iowa. The freshman is a little slow on rotations and adjustments defen- sively and doesn't look confident on the offensive end. But she wants to improve at both, and she's shown flashes of being able to make a positive impact. Bridget Perry 13 F • 6-2 • So. Perry's out for now, after rolling her ankle early in the loss against Maryland. And her absence has affected Purdue. She's probably the Boilermakers' best at going to the basket, able to create for herself or others. Purdue loses that ability without her on the floor, and it doesn't rebound as well. The timeline for her return wasn't determined as of Monday. Torrie Thornton 4 F • 6-0 • Jr. Thornton's positively impacted games of late, because of her ability to do a variety of things: rebound, defend and score a little. She had seven rebounds over the two games last week, a solid total considering she averaged only 15 minutes an outing. Thornton's probably a little quick to take jumpers, when her strength is getting putbacks on offensive boards. The Reserves Deep Bench Haley Bodnar 43* F • 6-3 • Fr. Justine Hall 5 5-10 • G • Fr. Erica Moore 21^ 6-2 • F • Fr. * Out with injury ^ Suspended indefinitely For Season Stats Click Here
