GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 16 • 19 BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com B ridget Perry would be a big loss for the Boilermakers if she can't return in the near future. Although the full extent of the sophomore wing's ankle injury hasn't been stated publicly, Perry has already missed one game, sit- ting out the loss to Iowa on Sun- day. Purdue next plays Wisconsin on Thursday in Mackey Arena. "Everybody has to step up more," Coach Sharon Versyp said be- fore Purdue traveled to Iowa. "Our guards have to step up, do what they're supposed to be doing. Play- ers who haven't played a lot need to step up, play defense, rebound, bring a positive impact when they go in to the basketball game." Perry was hurt in the early minutes of Purdue's game Thursday at Mary- land, toppling to the floor before getting the ankle re-taped on the sideline. She tested it, but was un- able to return. Perry had an MRI Saturday morning, but Versyp has not yet talked to media; she'll do so Tues- day. Freshman Andreona Keys started in Perry's place against Iowa and played relatively well, scor- ing nine points on 2-of-5 shooting — she hit all four of her free throws — with seven rebounds, two steals and two assists. Keys has been solid much of the season for the Boilermakers, averag- ing 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. The 5-foot-10 wing has three games in which she's scored in double figures, a total that might need to go up if Perry's out any more time. "She's solid, but we need more from her," Versyp said of Keys before Iowa. "She's consis- tent, she's solid, you know what you're getting. She understands everything, understands the sys- tem, she's mature for her age. But we need her to rebound, to score the ball, those are two areas she's been lacking. But she doesn't hurt you right now, but before she can make a (sus- tained) impact but she's got to (consistently) rebound and score for us." BAYS BY THE BOOKS Whitney Bays is putting to- gether a solid senior season, leading Purdue to start an All- America campaign. The forward has run her streak of double-doubles to seven games, extending her own Purdue record. The second- best mark is four, held by Lind- say Wisdom-Hylton and Stacey Lovelace. Tom Campbell Bridget Perry missed the Iowa game after suffering an ankle injury earlier in the week vs. Maryland. 2014-15 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Date Opponent Time/Result Nov. 9 FINDLAY (exb.)
