"We don't get the traf- fic (from recruiters) here," said Los Fresnos coach Clint Fin- ley, who played at Nebraska, then briefly in the NFL. "Then when recruiters come down here, they don't believe. They look for a reason not to sign a player. We're playing at the highest level down here, 6A ball, and it's fast, faster than 3A ball up in North Texas even if they might have better athletes. … For some reason, I don't know, recruiters don't recognize that." Purdue, at least, did, adding Mendez as its third offensive line recruit for 2015, joining in-state prospects Matt McCann and Peyton Truitt. Mendez may project for guard. Finley said he played Mendez at mul - tiple positions because his intelligence al- lowed him to move around. But he thinks Mendez preferred guard because he was Los Fresnos Offensive lineman Michael Mendez has signed with Purdue and already enrolled.
