PREP PROFILES Michigan dropped into Detroit Cass Tech in the 2013 class to land offensive lineman David Dawson plus defensive backs Jourdan Lewis and Delano Hill, all of whom were four-star prospects. If the Wolver- ines want to land Hill's younger brother, Lavert, they'll have to head across town to Martin Luther King for another Rivals250 player. L a v e r t H i l l played his first three years of high school ball at Cass Tech, but will finish his high school career at King in 2015. Though two Crusaders (linebacker Tyriq Thompson and offensive lineman Kyonta Stall- worth) are headed to Michigan State in the 2015 class, the move shouldn't impact the Wolverines' chances at Hill. "It's pretty good so far right now with Michigan," he said of his recruit- ing process. "I know a lot of people there, so they'll teach me stuff about Michigan that I don't know. The coaches have told me to just keep working, and I'll be around there." The 5-10, 166-pounder is one of the most exciting athletes in the 2016 class across the state of Michigan, with the ability to make plays either from his preferred spot at cornerback, or on of- fense with the ball in his hands. With offers from Miami, Ohio State, and Tennessee — among several others — along with the Wolverines, Hill is no sure thing for the Wolverines. How- ever, his brother's experience in Ann Arbor (Delano was a part-time starter at safety for the Maize and Blue during his sopho- more year) and the connections from it should help U-M remain in it until the end. Michigan is certainly an offer he was excited to receive. "I called Coach [Chris] Single- tary just to keep in touch with him," Hill explained. "He said he had some news for me, then he said to hold on. That's when Brady Hoke picked up the phone. He said they see I've been working hard, and: 'Congratulations Lavert, we are offering you a scholar- ship at U-M.' "Right after I talked to Coach Hoke, I called Delano," he admitted with a slight chuckle. "He just said congrats." Hill's Michigan offer remains active after the coaching change in Ann Ar- bor, though he won't set foot on cam- pus for an unofficial visit with Jim Har- baugh as the head coach until later in the winter. At that time, however, the Maize and Blue will have a strong shot to cement their place near the top of Hill's list. — Tim Sullivan ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Martin Luther King Collegiate Detroit Class: 2016 Position: Cornerback Ht.: 5-10 • Wt.: 166 Rivals.com Rankings: No. 6 player in Michigan, No. 19 cornerback nation- ally and No. 243 overall player in the country Lavert Hill Detroit Defensive Back Is High On Michigan
