O nly five years ago, Florida State's football program for- feited wins and was placed on probation for an academic cheat- ing scandal that permeated much of the school's athletic program. At the same time, Alabama football was starting its own probationary period and forced to vacate 21 wins under former head coach Mike Shula and current head coach Nick Saban. Moving northward, Ohio State suffered a one-year postseason ban and probation on Dec. 20, 2011. The scandal centered on players who had traded memorabilia and apparel for tattoos in violation of NCAA rules under head coach Jim Tressel, who would later "retire" and remain under a five-year show cause until 2016. And in the northwest, Oregon head coach Chip Kelly received his own show cause before jump- ing ship to the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.
