Introducing your "Final Four" of
college football, ladies and gentle-
men, led by national champion Ohio
State. To add insult to injury, Tressel
was announced as an inductee into
the National Football Foundation
Hall of Fame days before the Buck-
eyes beat Oregon 42-20 in the title
game and honored on the field be-

"One of the things I said when I
was on the committee was if you
look at what happened, particularly
when you compared it to what the
Committee on Academic Perfor-
mance penalties were, you were
doing better if you cheated to get
there than if you played it straight
and didn't have the academic per-
formance," Jo Potuto, a Nebraska
law professor and a former Com-
mittee on Infractions member, told
USA Today in January. "I'm not sure
the system is failing, but we should
ramp up all the penalties to [become]
deterrents."

while those truly dedicated to fol-
lowing the rules languish. This isn't
new to college football, of course —
only magnified in the wake of the re-
cent scandals that became back page
news within days.

desperation, luck or something spe-
