GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 17 • 22 personally feel I fit well in their system. He sat down and talked about schemes and about how I'd pretty much be a dominant force in the middle of that defense." The Rivals.com three-star prospect was the first domino to fall last weekend, com- mitting Saturday after Purdue offered him his scholarship. Larry Wells: Like Wilson, Wells was of- fered during his visit and accepted swiftly. The 6-6, 310-pound offensive tackle from Kenton, Ohio, was a long-time commitment to Kentucky be- fore parting ways with the Wildcats in December. He also held an offer from Cin- cinnati but jumped at Purdue's invite on Sunday before leaving campus. He'll play guard or tackle. "I'm not really sure, but it'll be offen- sive line somewhere," Wells said. "It doesn't matter to me." The Rivals.com three-star prospect might have been an interesting evalua- tion for Purdue, since Kenton traditionally runs an overwhelmingly passing-oriented offense, putting a minimal emphasis on run-blocking. He's the Boilermakers' fourth offensive line recruit, joining Pey- ton Truitt, Matt McCann and Michael Mendez. D o m o n i q u e Young: Proving that Purdue's not taking its immediate needs at wide receiver lightly, the Boilermakers took their second commit- ment from a junior col- lege wide receiver. Like prior signee Anthony Mahoungou, Young is 6-4, 200-plus pounds, bringing some size to a position where the Boilermakers don't have very much. Young, who caught 53 passes for 939 yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore at Cerritos College, will have two years of eli- gibility at Purdue. "They feel like I can impact the team in a big way," Young said of Purdue's message to him last weekend. "... I think I can bring versatility, first of all. They can put me any- where they need to and I think they're go- ing to get the most of it. I think I can be somebody who can stretch the field and make big plays and make plays to give the team the best opportunity to win games. "I'm going to be a hard worker and a good blocker who can catch, so hopefully the full package." LINEMAN FLIPS Boilermaker defensive end commit- ment Twazanga Mugala switched his com- mitment to Duke after a weekend official visit to Durham, N.C. The Charlotte native had been com- mitted to the Boilermakers since the fall and officially visited during the second weekend of December. He is the third decommitment from Purdue's class, joining defensive back Isaac Warren (undecided) and junior col- lege tight end Cole Hikutini (Louisville). FOOTBALL RECRUITING NOTEBOOK R Next up on the commitment front for Purdue might be Texas' Jess Trussell, a tight end from Martin High School in Arlington who also officially visited this weekend. Trussell, a former UCF commitment, will host an in-home visit with offensive coordinator John Shoop Wednesday. He also has an offer from Houston, among others. R Illinois kicker/punter Brian Bravo committed to Purdue as a preferred walk- on during an unofficial visit on Sunday. R Purdue also hosted high school wide receiver Johnathon Johnson of Memphis this weekend, but he committed to Missouri shortly after returning home. R Defensive tackle Kevin Scott of Los Angeles used his first official visit on Purdue as his recruitment has taken off. Shortly before he visited, Miami (Fla.) offered the 6-4, 285-pounder. Texas of - fered while he was in West Lafayette. Mon- day, he'll visit USC, which has already of- fered a greyshirt deferred scholarship, but could ante up with a traditional offer. This was the Salesian High School line- man's first season of high school football. "They showed me a lot of love," Scott told Rivals.com of the Purdue visit. "They treated me like I was a commit. It was really cold so for me it was important to see if I could play there and adjust to the weather. Overall, I really liked it there. It was nice and the coaches were nice, the people were nice and the fans were nice." R Among anticipated official visi- tors this weekend are tight ends Donta Thompson and Mark Michaud of Texas and New Jersey, respectively. Both hold Purdue offers. BASKETBALL RECRUIT TRACKER S Ryan Cline: The Carmel shooting guard scored 22 points in a 64-42 win over Kokomo. S Grant Weatherford: The Hamilton Heights guard scored 14 points with five steals and four rebounds in a 70-50 win over Western Boone. S C.J. Walker: The 2016 Purdue com- mitment scored 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting with five rebounds and four as- sists in Indianapolis Tech's 63-60 win over Class 2A power Guerin Catholic. j Junior college wide receiver Domonique Young was one of three recruits to commit to Purdue last weekend.
