GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 17 • 27 BY TRAVIS BAUGH TBaugh@Purdue.edu C oach Laura Glitz wanted to see consistency from her team over the weekend as it prepared for the forthcoming ITA Women's Kick-Off Weekend at Clemson. Yet, she felt her team struggled to put together a complete perfor- mance in the Purdue Invitational, where Purdue competed against No. 46 DePaul, Denver and Drake in its first tournament of the spring season. "We're playing well in spots, but that's not going to win us an entire match," Glitz said. "It has to be all six. That, to me, was a little frustrating this weekend. "I think we have a really talented team this year, but for us to do well everyone from 1-6 singles to 1-3 doubles has to be focused and ready to go and competing every point from beginning to end. That, to me, didn't happen, and that's what needs to happen for us to be good." The Boilermakers failed to combine strong singles and doubles performance in any of the three days of the tournament. Purdue dominated in singles action Friday by going 8-0 against Denver but went just 4-2 in doubles play. The Boilers fared better in doubles play Saturday — its one loss came against No. 52 Jasmin Kling/Patricia Fargas of DePaul — but won only two of seven singles matches against the Blue Demons. A 3-4 record in singles play against an un - ranked Drake squad capped the weekend Sunday. Purdue's top ranked singles play- er, No. 105 Andjela Djokovic, went just 1-2 over the weekend with a pair of losses to unranked op- ponents. "DePaul really pushed us and I think we needed a test like that," Glitz said. "The other teams after four or five balls would break down a little bit, but DePaul would make 10-12 balls and they could also attack. They were preseason No. 46, but I think they're better than that. It was a good benchmark for us. We're still not where we need to be." No. 118 Daniella Vidal was a bright spot in singles play for the Boilermakers with a 3-0 mark over the weekend high- lighted by a 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) win over No. 93 Patricia Lancranjan for her second career victory over a ranked opponent. Vidal's showing comes after a 10-4 fall campaign highlighted by a quarterfinal appearance in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships. CONSISTENCY CONCERNS Women's tennis falls short of Glitz's expectations Purdue Daniela Vidal notched Purdue's most impressive victory over the weekend with a 7-5, 7-6 (3) victory over DePaul's No. 93 Patricia Lancranjan.
