8 JANUARY 31-FEBRUARY 6, 2015 | DENVER CATHOLIC Denver Catholics may have noticed that there's a new Catholic radio station in town. EWTN aªliate KRCN 1060 AM began broadcasting Jan. 1, with its day- time reach stretching from Colorado Springs to Wyoming. The 50,000-watt station located in Longmont is part of the Catholic Radio Network, and it replaces the network's previous North- ern Colorado aªliate, KPIO 1570 AM.ŸIt's the same great content, just a di«erent channel. Catholic radio is a powerful tool for the New Evangeliza- tion. Use with care. Catholic Relief Services sent a thank you note to all of you (addressed to the Archdiocese of Denver) for your generosity in giving to two parish-based collections in 2014. The collection for aiding those a«ected by the armed con- flict in the Middle East last summer totaled $109,644.43, and the collection for Typhoon Haiyan was $32,759.33. Your money went to a very noble cause, that of aiding our brothers and sisters in need—a beautiful demonstration of solidarity. After three months of dedicated work, a group of fourth and fifth-graders in Annunciation School's after-school program are now published authors. The team of budding writers published a book of stories they collected from school parents who grew up in South Sudan, then showcased their talents by handwriting and illustrating each page. Teachers raised $2,500 to allow the students to print 300 copies, now for sale for $15 each, in English, Spanish or Arabic. Get your copy at the school, hot o« the presses! Endow (Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Woman) will salute retired colonel Diana Ruzicka at their Feb. 7 gala, bestowing on her the Julia Greeley Award for her dedication to the wom- en's ministry and 25 years of service in the Army Nurse Corps. The mili- tary-career nurse and Catholic wife and mother introduced Endow study groups to the Archdiocese for the Military Ser- vices while stationed at Fort Carson, Colo. After retiring, Diana didn't stop promoting Endow—she went on to facil- itate 18 more study groups. Through it all, she touched the lives of countless women and their families. We salute you, Colonel Ruzicka! Thanks to the Littleton-based JDO Foundation, hundreds of students now have the chance to enhance their Cath- olic education with the addition of an iPad. Last week the foundation—started by former 25-year teacher Judy O'Con- nell Coon as a tribute to her father Richard K. O'Connell, a lifelong sup- porter of education—donated 540 iPads to three schools: St. Rose of Lima Academy, Assumption and Guardian Angels. Photo provided Did we miss a Shout Out? They also sang songs for the legis- lators and stuck around for a little bit to mingle with the lawmakers. As you can see, they made a great impression.
