No dry-sump oil systems are allowed, so a
standard oil pan must be used. The drawback
to being restricted to using an standard
oil pan is that the engine sits higher in the
chassis, increasing center of gravity, and
the oil pan is more exposed to damage.
Belts and pulley systems however are not
restricted. But basically, the engine must
remain certified stock just the way it came
from the factory. Before the motor can be
installed into the race truck, the engine
must be sealed by a technical official from
SCORE-International. Of course, free-flowing
exhaust headers are used along with low-
restricting mufflers. So the engine, even
though it is a crate engine from one of the
OEM manufacturers like Ford, Chevrolet, and
Dodge, can be a pretty strong and reliable,
putting out more than 400 horsepower.
For example, a factory crate motor that
might be used for a Chevy TT Spec truck
is the 6.2-L (376ci) LS3 small-block engine.
This engine is the standard engine used
for Corvette and found in Camaro SS. It's
an aluminum block engine with 10.7:1
compression ratio that runs on high-octane
INSIDE A TT SPEC TRUCK IS ABOUT
THE SAME AS A UNLIMITED TROPHY
TRUCK WITH FULL INSTRUMENTATION
AND NAVIGATION.
With all the off-road
performance and
characteristics of a
full Unlimited Trophy
Truck, racers often
get comfortable in the
TT Spec class before
jumping into the same
type of truck with
more than double the
horsepower.
