GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 19 • 23 BY GOLD AND BLACK STAFF DEFENSIVE LINEMAN COMMITS On the final weekend prior to Wednesday's signing date, Purdue added Louisiana defensive tackle Fred Brown after hosting the former Arkan- sas State commitment for an official visit. The 6-foot-2, 260-pounder joins Michigan's Eddy Wilson — he rejected offers from Pittsburgh and Iowa and opted to stick with the Boilermakers — as Purdue's interior defensive line commitments. "They said they like my motor and how I use my hands and that my limbs are long," said Brown, who recorded 10 sacks and made more than 80 tackles as a senior at Hahnville High School in Boutte, La. "They said that they want me to play inside at defensive tackle." Brown was one of two official visitors at Purdue this weekend, the other being previously commit - ted Georgia athlete Evyn Cooper, who saw for the first time the school he committed to in December. Nonetheless, according to PressofAtlanticCity.com, Purdue called Ennis this week to pull the scholarship he accepted in the summer. "It's unfair," Ennis told the newspaper. "I was put in an unfair position. I dealt with what I had to deal with, and I'm still dealing with it. I got my hopes up until (six) days before signing day and then you call me. I'm not an animal. If I could go back and change what happened that night, I'd do it in a heartbeat." Purdue had been in communication with Ennis throughout the year and did give him reason to believe there was a real possibility it would not sign him.
