SNOWEST'S
Snow Bike Project
Accessing the backcountry on a single ski
Ok, we're impressed. These snow bikes are capable of getting places in the
steep backcountry that we didn't imagine they would. So much so, that we're
turning to the snow bikes now for photo shoot rides. We can get to the spots
on the mountain we want to shoot from just as easily, and park and get going
again even easier. The bikes are a blast to carve through the thick trees on,
and they turn gnarly sidehills into playgrounds.
Here's a closer look at the 2015 Husqvarna FE501 we built for the season.
BIKE: 2015 Husqvarna FE501 from
Rexburg Motor Sports. We chose this
bike for its unique blend of torque,
mid-range power, electric start, reli-
ability and appeal. It's a bike we rode all
summer long last year so we were very
comfortable with it going into the snow
season. www.rexburgmotorsports.com
KIT: We opted for the new Timbersled
Mountain Horse LT kit this year. The lon-
ger 137-inch track gives the bike added
flotation in deep snow. The Timbersled
Mountain Horse is a proven kit for du-
rability and ride-ability in one package.

EXHAUST: On dirt or on snow, our first
pick for exhaust systems is the FMF 4.1
titanium exhaust. www.fmfracing.com
CLUTCH: The Rekluse 3.0 Core clutch
makes riding the snow that much easier.
You don't have to worry about stalling
the bike, and being in the right spot on
the power band while climbing is man-
aged by the auto clutch. It defiantly ups
the fun-factor. www.rekluse.com
SEAT: We went for more comfort with
the wider trail set from Seat Concepts.

GRAPHICS: Toyskinz handled the
sweet wrap design. Their wraps are ex-
tremely durable. www.toyskinz.com
SUSPENSION: Brockstar Suspension
& Tuning did the valving and tuning
for our dirt setup, and came up with a
unique fork spec for the winter snow
bike application. It's a stiff fork spring
with custom valving that has proved to
be a great setup for snow. www.brock-
starperformance.com
SETUP: Brock Buttars of Brockstar Sus-
pension & Tuning built the bike, install-
ing the Timbersled kit at the Intermoun-
tain Snowmobile Show in Sandy, Utah,
last fall. Buttars also custom-tuned the
ECU to maximize power delivery and
improve cold-weather starting.
CONTROLS: We turned to Pro Moto
Billet / Fastway for a set of extended
Adventure foot pegs and FIT series
hand guards. www.promotobillet.com
PROTECTION: P3 Carbon provided
a carbon fiber skidplate, pipe shield,
water pump cover, and Mountain Horse
chain case cover (to protect the nylofi-
ber chain cover). www.p3carbon.com
GEARING: We geared up the top gear
in the chain drive for increased track
speed.
COMFORT: The one downside to snow
bikes? No factory heated grips. We
got a set of heated grips from Rocky
Mountain ATV. They work great. www.
