22 SNOWEST FEBRUARY 2015 There's no easier way to lose a bunch of weight off the front of your sled than by replacing the exhaust can with a lightweight one. Diamond S puts a new twist on lightweight cans with its new line of titanium cans. Using titanium is kind of Diamond S' thing, having built run- ning boards, mesh hoods, suspension arms and tube chassis all out of tita- nium in the past. Now flip over to the 2015 Ski-Doo Summit 800 with the T3 package and take a look at its muffler. Not only is it large—it's quite heavy. At over 18 pounds, the stock muffler is a lot of bulk to pack around if you don't need to. That's where the Diamond S Titanium can comes in. At just under 4 pounds, the titanium can offers near- ly a 14.5-pound weight savings. That alone is worth the price of admission. But with all things aftermarket, there is always more to the sales pitch. In this case, however, it just gets bet- ter. We mounted the titanium can on a 2015 Ski-Doo Summit 800 T3 163 and went for a backcountry ride. Right away we noticed the sound levels were com- parable to the stock muffler at idle and low rpm. When the exhaust valves open up in the mid range, there is a bit more of a bark. Most of the riders in our group were surprised to learn the sled had a can on it at the end of the day. Power-wise, the titanium can added a little extra snap to the midrange and perked up the sled's top-end response. It creates more of a noticeable transi- tion from mid to high range.
