| NORTH AMERICAN RINK CONFERENCE & EXPO 04 Professional Designations CERTIFIED ICE RINK MANAGER (CIRM) is STAR's highest professional designation and has been designed to recognize ice rink professionals that have made a commitment to furthering their careers by educating themselves on all aspects of the ice rink business. Individuals will be awarded the Certified Ice Rink Manager designation by STAR once they have achieved both the Certified Ice Technician and Certified Rink Administrator designations. CERTIFIED ICE TECHNICIAN (CIT) professional designation, recognized by the National Hockey League (NHL), is the most highly regarded professional designation for ice rink operations professionals. To achieve the CIT, an individual must complete the following three operations courses and pass the exams: • Basic Refrigeration – (BR) • Ice Making and Painting Technologies – (IMPT) • Ice Maintenance and Equipment Operation – (IMEO) CERTIFIED RINK ADMINISTRATOR (CRA) professional designation has been designed to give ice rink administrative professionals the opportunity to achieve a level of recognition in the industry. To achieve the CRA, an individual must complete the following three management courses and pass the exams: • Human Resource Management – (HRM) • Operations and Risk Management – (ORM) • Programming, Marketing and Promotions – (PMP) Designations Designations recognized by recognized by C E R T I F I E D I C E T E C H N I C I A N R E C E R T I F I C AT I O N Individuals who have been awarded the Certified Ice Technician (CIT) professional designation by STAR are required to recertify every five years from the year their CIT was originally achieved. There are two ways for individuals to recertify their CIT with STAR: 1. Complete the CIT Review workshop and pass the Recertification exam. This course is offered at the North American Rink Conference & Expo each year. 2. Complete a CIT Recertification exam at any STAR Regional Training Program location. • Individuals who achieve a STAR professional designation (CIT, CRA, CIRM) are required to maintain their annual STAR Individual Membership to keep their professional designations valid. • The CIT designation is offered exclusively in the United States through a training alliance formed between STAR and the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA).
