GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 21 • 24 geries and injuries, too. Sindelar had a graft taken from his healthy knee to repair the injured ACL, but Anthrop went with a single-knee sur- gery in which the graft was taken from his patellar tendon. Anthrop had consid- erable damage, too, from when his knee violently buckled on a punt return at Ne - braska in November. Not only did he have a torn ACL but also a torn lateral medial meniscus, cartilage damage and broken bones from his tibia and fibula, he said. " They said they repaired everything and they sutured my meniscus, so they didn't have to take anything out, which was nice," Anthrop said. "I know some people, like wrestlers, they just take it out. They used microfractures to repair the cartilage damage. … " They said that's probably harder to recover from than just the ACL. I still have the bone contusions. (Athletic trainer) Sal ( Vallejo) told me early on that it would probably take longer for those to go away than my ACL to heal. I think right now my ACL is healed, it's just that my leg is not strong. They say the day af - ter surgery you could probably run full speed and you'd be OK. I didn't (try). I was laying in bed. Netflix was the only thing that ran that day." Anthrop at least has the luxury of al- ready knowing the offense. That's something Sindelar is focused on right now and is eager to see how it works in the spring. By the fall, Sindelar says he's eager to compete for the start- ing job in training camp. But he knows all he can do now is lay the ground- work for that move by taking advan- tage of enrolling mid-year. He's been fully immersed in learn- ing John Shoop's complicated offense, watching film to learn plays, forma- tions and motions but also hitting the playbook and studying terminology and how to actually call the plays. That's been an adjustment so far. "It's like a full sentence for one play. In high school, it was just one word for me because we were no-hud- dle," he said. "So it was, get up to the line, I'll yell the play, which is one word to three words, everybody knew what they were doing and then we could go because we wanted to be playing fast. Here, it's different because I'm in a huddle now, so now I have time and the play is a book, little different." FASTER SCHEME? One of the biggest battles in camp will be at the X receiver spot where mid-year enrollee Anthony Ma- houngou will join the mix, competing against returning players DeAngelo Yancey and Gregory Phillips. Another JUCO transfer Domonique Young will come in the fall as another option. But Purdue doesn't just need someone to emerge at the single-re - ceiver spot. With Anthrop out for the spring and B.J. Knauf 's career over, plenty of other players will have the THE HILL GROUP REHABILITATION INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO hillgrp.com We're Illinois' largest mechanical contractor … and proud to have 38 outstanding Purdue alumni on our HVAC/Plumbing team.
