BASKETBALL RECRUITING that produced a slick dish for a bucket, a hoop plus a foul and then he hit a pull-up 15-footer and got a transition jam." Thornton had just come off a visit to Kentucky, one that went extremely well. Louisville's Pitino has made Thornton a priority, trying to get him to reclassify to 2015. That won't hap- pen, Derryck "Tank" Thornton Sr. told us, but the Cardinals are high on the list. The Thorntons will visit Louisville and Arizona in coming weeks after seeing Duke Feb. 18. "It's Duke," Thornton Jr. told Zags- Blog.com of what he likes most about the Blue Devils. "They have a great history. Coach [Mike Krzyzewski] is great. They are in contact with me a lot so I like that, and I love their style of play." Michigan assistants have done most of the heavy lifting in their recruit- ment, Thornton Sr. said, and while he has a great relationship with Meyer, having played for him in the 1990s at Liberty, he noted the relationship with Beilein isn't as strong as some of the other head coaches. "There's no visit set for Michigan yet," Thornton Sr. said. "We don't hear from them as much as other schools, but we still love Michigan and the whole staff. We've got to set up visits for other schools — it's just so hard during our season. We play so many games at Findlay Prep." There's still plenty of time for U-M to get right back in the mix, he added. • Beilein and the Wolverines are re- cruiting other points guards, as well. Detroit U-D Jesuit's Cassius Winston (6-0, No. 34 junior in the country) is as big a priority, and Beilein has seen him play and been in contact a number of times. That one appears to be a Michi- gan versus MSU battle. Winston continued his fine play in leading the Cubs to a 72-57 win over Saginaw Arthur Hill Feb. 6. He led all scorers with 33 points, and added eight assists and six rebounds for U-D Jesuit (13-1). "He did a great job of getting to the rim and finishing," U-D Jesuit coach Pat Donnelly told MLive.com. "He also shot the ball well — every- thing seemed to be working for him tonight." Winston has been in Ann Arbor eight times since the summer. • Offeree Seth Towns (6-7, No. 124 Cassius Winston, a 6-0 point guard at Detroit U-D Jesuit and the No. 34 junior in the country according to Rivals.com, con- tinues to have a strong interest in Michigan.
