2015 RECRUITING ISSUE ball, he approached the entire recruit- ing process with a level head and wisdom beyond his years. "It was definitely a difficult time, probably more so for the team that's there, than for recruits like myself," Newsome explained. "But it was still a difficult time for my family, just not knowing who the new coaching staff would be, whether it would have a place for me, how I'd fit into their system. "I'm very fortunate that everything worked out the way it did and that we have a great coaching staff in place. The program is going to be able to move forward and not only maintain the athletic prowess, but also the character and the moral val- ues that Coach Hoke did such great job of maintaining." Newsome's head coach, Danny O'Dea, was impressed with his player throughout the recruiting pro- cess, but especially during the time of uncertainty in regards to who the new coach would be. He gushed about Newsome's maturity and sys- tematic approach to making sure that Michigan was still going to be the place for him regardless of who the coach was. "When there was no coach at Mich- igan, I thought that Grant was very solid with his reasons for why he still wanted Michigan," O'Dea explained. "He didn't commit to Michigan just because of Coach Hoke. "I talk to all of my kids about look- ing at the school for much more than just the position coach or the head coach. The coaches definitely need to come into play, but those things can obviously change. He listened to that and really committed to Michigan and not a specific coach."
