7 11 Issue 72 / 2015 FASHION guestlist.net Fashion East at LFW We run down what we're excited to see from Fashion East at this year's London Fashion Week. #YEEZY x adidas originaLs Kanye West debuts his collab with Adidas at New York Fashion Week, and the whole thing is very Kanye Wherever Kanye goes, people follow, and his NYFW show was no exception. The FROW was star-studded to say the least – Jay-Z, Beyoncé, P Diddy, Rihanna, Anna Wintour, Kim K and little North, who threw a tantrum because she's a toddler, not a fashion accessory, and that's what toddlers do. Kanye went on to explain, "She just wanted people to stop being mean to her daddy." SURE she did. Kanye being Kanye, he couldn't just let the work speak for itself, so of course he opened the show with a classic Yeezy rant. The diverse array of models, including Kylie Jenner, were presented in formation rather than on a runway, making the show more like a performance piece. The collection was equally as stark; basic and functional, minimalist and androgynous, in a rigidly muted colour palette. The show received mixed reviews, but body stockings aside, the relaxed tees, leggings and oversized jackets gave the collection a sense of both comfort and wearability. Ultimately, the collection is nothing revolutionary, it's just Kanye doing his own version of pieces making the rounds right now – oversized sweaters, bomber jackets and tunic tops have been on many a runway recently, and will feature in a few more. Whilst entire looks may not translate off the stage – tights do not equal trousers, and it takes a brave person to wear flesh-coloured body stocking on the street – individual pieces can easily slot into an everyday wardrobe. Fashion East was established as a non-profit organisation nearly 15 years ago, and its main agenda has always been supporting young talented designers. Fashion East opened the doors to the fashion world for the likes of House of Holland and Meadham Kirchhoff, and this year they're bringing us a trio of fresh talent! Ed Marler "The bright young thing" according to Dazed magazine, Ed Marler has already been spotted at LFW, having shown his S/S15 debut collection. The Central Saint Martins graduate believes that a bit of sparkle doesn't hurt, but his idea of a "little sparkle" is a full-on royal masquerade with a storm of golden sequins, must- have crowns and metres of snakeskin. Sounds slightly OTT? Well, as they say, you only live once. Caitlin Price Another CSM graduate, Caitlin was awarded the Armani Scholarship under the late Professor Louise Wilson OBE, so it's obvious that the young designer is blessed with talent. A/W15 is a debut for Caitlin as an independent designer, and she has always had a soft spot for luxe sports gear, which she believes is under-represented in the womenswear department. So ditch your old pair of grey sweatpants and prepare to pair your favourite Nike trainers with a silky navy blue number. Mary Benson London based Mary will also present her debut collection as part of the Fashion East trio. For Mary, fashion and art are endlessly intertwined: her graduating collection from the University of Westminster was inspired by 70s cover art, and in this collection, she contrasts an feminine, hourglass silhouette with signature Art Nouveau- inspired prints.
