17 Research Research Awards Alongside the increase in research output the profile of the department has increased, as indicated by the more than 200% rise in the number of presentations given by department members at international events (see Table 2) and the 85 awards and honours received by department members (see Table 2 and Awards section). Notable awards include: • Shoo Lee – Toronto Life Top Doctors 2014; the Magnolia Silver Award from the Shanghai Government; President's Lecture at the Canadian Paediatric Society Annual Meeting; Researcher of the Month from Canadians for Health Research; • Milk Bank Team (including Sharon Unger and Shoo Lee) – an Achievement, Commitment and Excellence (ACE) Award from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care; • Sharon Unger – Award for Outstanding Clinical Contribution for Clinical Excellence in Pediatric Medical Care from the University of Toronto; Woman of Distinction Award and Karen McGibbon Award for Excellence in Innovation from Mount Sinai Hospital; • Karel O'Brien – Karen McGibbon Award for Excellence in Innovation from Mount Sinai Hospital; • Prakesh Shah – Emerging Leader in Neonatology Award from the Canadian Paediatric Society; Glory of India Award and Certificate of Excellence from the India International Friendship Society; Karen McGibbon Award for Excellence in Innovation from Mount Sinai Hospital; • Vibhuti Shah – Canadian Pain Society's Pain Awareness Award; Canadian Society for Pharmacology and Therapeutics Publication Award; Karen McGibbon Award for Excellence in Innovation from Mount Sinai Hospital; • Ann Jefferies – Patil Award for Teaching and Learning from the Association for Medical Education in Europe; Excellence in Teaching Award from University of Toronto; • Praveen Kumar – Wiley Blackwell First Prize from the International Congress of Pediatrics; Best Pediatric Thesis Award from the Indian Journal of Pediatrics; • Sandra Leibel – SPR Travel Award from Society for Pediatric Research; Outstanding Fellow Teaching Award from Division of Neonatology; • Amish Jain – POWER Teaching Award from University of Toronto; Infection Prevention Safety and Performance Award from Mount Sinai Hospital; and • Afif El-Khuffash – Best Neonatal Platform Presentation at Neonatal Perinatal Medicine Research Day. The Maternal-Infant Care Research Centre (MiCare) Created in 2009, MiCare is a unique multi-disciplinary centre whose members include clinicians, researchers, epidemiologists, statisticians, research coordinators, database managers and developers, research assistants, and scientific writers. The Director of MiCare is Dr. Shoo Lee and the Associate Director is Dr. Prakesh Shah. Other core researchers at MiCare include Dr. Lucia Mirea, Biostatistician, Dr. Xiangming Qiu, Health Services Researcher, Dr. Vibhuti Shah, a Clinician Scientist, and several Post-Doctoral Research Fellows, Dr. Tetsuya Isayama, Dr. Jane Jiang, Dr. Yanyu Lyu, and Dr. Nurya Rejiafu. MiCare is funded through grants from CIHR and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. MiCare provides research support to core MiCare researchers and members of the Department of Paediatrics. The support includes research methods design, statistical services, database creation and management, program management and coordination, and grant writing and scientific editing services. These services are available to all researchers in the department and are a significant boost to the research output of the department.
