4 Foreword Foreword It is with enormous pride that I offer my congratulations and gratitude to every member of our Paediatrics department. Mount Sinai Hospital began as a maternity hospital over 90 years ago, and today our Women's and Infants' Health Program is the largest in the hospital. The innovative models of care developed at Mount Sinai, such as the Family Integrated Care model in our NICU, are not only reshaping clinical care across Canada, but also around the world. The opening of the Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank last year was indeed a proud moment for all of us, as we made donated breast milk available to the most vulnerable babies across the province. This 5-year report is filled with examples of system-wide impact and the collective efforts of our paediatric leadership to have global impact in lowering infant mortality. Mount Sinai has always been ambitious about excellence and this report is an extraordinary showcase of how we deliver the best medicine, and the best patient experience. Thanks to the unwavering commitment of our clinical and research teams under the leadership of Dr. Shoo Lee, and our government and philanthropic funding partners, the care that we are delivering to newborns is truly transformative. On behalf of every parent of the close to 7,000 babies whose lives begin in our hospital ever year, I offer a heartfelt thank you. Joseph Mapa, President and CEO
