SXSW Interactive Hall of Fame The SXSW Interactive Hall of Fame Award honors those with a track record of doing great work in the digital community. The goal of the SXSW Interactive Festival Hall of Fame is to recognize those trendsetters whose career accom- plishments have paved the way to the future of the digital industry. As with 2014 honoree Joi Ito, Hall of Fame inductees are essential members of the Interactive community who have made numerous contributions to the under- lying SXSW goals of creativity, innovation, and inspiration. Tamara Hudgins, 2015 Honoree Tamara Hudgins, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of Girlstart. Since 2009, Girlstart's impact has grown from reaching 1,500 girls, teachers, and family members each year to over 15,000. The world's greatest challenges need new STEM ideas and insights. Yet half of the world's potential ideamakers – women and girls – are discouraged from developing vital STEM ideas. Girlstart believes that more girls with more ideas will create more solutions to benefit us all. To address this, Girlstart increases girls' interest and engagement in STEM through innovative, nationally recognized informal STEM education programs. Girlstart culti- vates a culture where risk is rewarded, curiosity is encouraged, and creativity is expected. Since 2009, Girlstart After School has grown from four to 45 programs, has been recognized as the most robust program of its kind in the nation, and is now replicating regionally. Girlstart Summer Camp, the second core program, has expanded from 8 to 22 week long programs each summer, with replication outside Austin as well as in six states nationwide. Both Girlstart After School and Girlstart Summer Camp have been recognized by Change the Equation in the STEMWorks database, with Girlstart Summer Camp further recognized as one of four "exemplary" and "highly scalable" STEM education programs in America. Girlstart now aspires to scale its programs to reach girls across the nation. Amy K Brown SXSW Innovation Awards Categories SXSW 2015 Interactive Festival 59 INTERACTIVE EVENTS
