GOLD & BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 25, ISSUE 4 28 wouldn't be too much change, and I like that. I like the offense we've run for my school. It's pro-style and we run, run, then hit them with the pass. It keeps (defenses) on their toes." Though neither would seem "ready-made," per se, Hopkins and/ or Trussell could find opportunities to contribute for Purdue right away, given its vacated depth chart at tight end, where four seniors are gone, in- cluding the Boilermakers' top two or three players, depending on how you look at it. LARRY WELLS This is a really i n t e r e s t i n g case. Here's a 6-8, 310-plus-pound Big Ten-bound offensive tack- le who's barely run-blocked to this point. You see, Wells' Kenton High School program in Ohio is known for its pass-first-, second- and third-down offense and so its tackle spent most of his career in back-pedal. "Coach Bridge and I have talked a lot about it," Wells said. "That will be a big focus of my first year, learning a lot of run-blocking schemes and (technique). We only ran the ball like five times probably this season, but he said run-blocking is the easy part and that pass-blocking is harder." Bridge said there was just one run-blocking clip on Wells' "entire tape" from his senior year. "And it was a pancake," the line coach joked, "so he's 1-for-1." Kenton's offense certainly had its advantages, too. Tempo, for one. Wells hopes he Kevin Webb Metroplexsportspix.com Jess Trussell can catch the ball as a tight end, but he'll need to develop physically to hold the point of attack.
