nside Mackey Arena, Henry Dukes'
voice booms.
It's at its loudest during player in-
troductions, when the 22-year-old lets
out a floor-shaking, rim-rattling howl.
Then, another. And one more, the last
nearly rivaling P.A. man Carson Tuck-
er, who has the benefit of microphone
amplification.
If Dukes could leap out of his chair,
he most certainly would.
"I just do it because I want them to
feed off of it," said Dukes, Purdue's
assistant director of women's basket-
ball operations. "Because sometimes
we don't have that much energy. So
I do it to make sure they get fired up
and to make sure everybody else gets
fired up in the building.
"But it's not working right now."
No, it isn't. The Boilermakers are
mired in their worst season in the last
30 years, by late February having sunk
to the bottom of the Big Ten standings.
It's been a trying, difficult search for
answers.
But there's a brightness, too, as
Henry Dukes, Purdue's assistant director of operations, can't help but get fired up
at the start of games, when he's nearly the loudest voice in Mackey Arena during
player introductions.
