offer multiple optics can better provide proper lighting solutions for a wide range of vehicles and applications. Spot lights and wide beams require a variety of optics that focus the beam in a desired pattern. Some manufacturers may even build in two types of optics in one light bar, allowing the driver to instantly switch from a narrow flood light to a wide field light. But perhaps some of the best factors in determining which LED light is best for your vehicle, can come from actual testimonials from racers and off-road enthusiasts alike. "Our lights have been smashed, cut, hammered, burnt, shot, frozen, slammed and dragged behind a vehicle, and none were completely destroyed," says Carpenter. "There are multiple examples around the office of lights that were mangled in high- speed Baja rollovers, and they still work!" Reichert can attest to that as he recalls a situation in which he smashed into some cactus and his Rigid LED lights remained working. "We hit a tree, a barrel cactus, at 70 mph. The front 40-inch nose light was wrapped 45 degrees into the nose of the truck and it still worked!" While it's best to leave the torture testing to the desert racers, you can begin to understand why many off-road enthusiasts, look to see what's being used on SCORE racing vehicles, and realize if they are good enough to be used in desert racing conditions, they should be able to withstand anything a normal truck owner could put them through. It's obvious to see the close relationship that LED light manufacturers have had with desert racing. Both have benefited from this relationship and continue to play a part in the development of new technologies and night driving safety. In the meantime, manufacturers like Rigid Industries, Baja Designs, PIAA, KC HiLiTES, Vision X Lighting, Light Force and others, will continue to work with racers and torture teams, as well as everyday customers to find new uses for their products.
