His family was running behind him
trying to catch up in order to give
him some better lights. Along the
way their tire blew out, pulling their
van off the highway and rolling it
end over end. All three of his family
members were ejected from the
van. "My brother had a sprained
neck and my dad was pretty
cut up from the glass. My mom
suffered a broken back, neck, and
shoulders. That was the only time I
wished I had a partner to hand the
bike to for a little." Happily, Gera
reports they are all ok now and
says they are a very tough family.
When asked if he thinks he could
have finished the Baja 1000 that
night, Gera replied "I would have
won it. I had a two hour lead. The
most important thing to remember
is to go as fast as you can every
where you can." he says. "It feels
good to be one of the youngest
people racing in SCORE. I have
a lot of time to get to where my
dream is. The only disadvantage
is that being young, I haven't
learned everything. There are
still a lot of mistakes I am making
and I'm learning as I go." SJ
TONY GERA IS ONLY 19, BUT
HIS EFFORTS IN SCORE'S
IRONMAN CLASS ARE
IMPRESSIVE TO EVEN THE
MOST VETERAN RACERS.
GERA WON THE IRONMAN
CLASS WAY AHEAD OF
THE SECOND PLACE
FINISHER, DEMONSTRATING
HIS YOUNG TALENT
AND CAPABILITIES.
