SO YOU'RE THINKING
OF HIRING
A MANAGEMENT
S
uccessful facility owners and operators have figured
out how to run various aspects of their business–
programming, league schedules, birthday parties,
concessions–through research, trial and error, and
talking to others. Owners enjoy the process of growing
the business, and most seem to enjoy running day-to-
day operations.
As our industry ages, however, more and more owners
are seeking ways to relieve themselves of day-to-day
responsibilities or possibly move out of the business
entirely. Most owners will tell you, however, that few
people, except for, perhaps, family members, can take
proper care of their business.
According to Pete Spanos of USIndoor member and
St. Louis based Vetta Sports, an owner who no longer
desires involvement in the day-to-day operations of the
facility needs "a steward of his or her business."
Indeed, a sports facility management company may be
able to fill that need.
BENEFITS OF WORKING
WITH A MANAGEMENT COMPANY
A good management company knows how owners
think–or should think–and can have several
advantages, based on experience with varied markets
and facilities. The management company knows, for
example, what works well in certain geographical
locations and among various populations.
"Every one of us spent years rotating between the
office, concessions, and walking the floor," says Greg
Elliot, Principal at Sportsplex Management Group.
"You're going to be dealing with people who are in
those same shoes. You have a perspective–when to
tighten up, when to have an understanding–on money
