GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 24 • 16 more years here," Octeus told the crowd. Beshears didn't make much of an impact on the court for the Boil- ermakers during his career — he played in only one game this sea- son and wasn't even in the game for a minute — but he was a solid behind-the-scenes presence as a leader and in the classroom. Painter called Beshears a "com- pany man." "He was a rock for us," Painter said. "You can never have enough of that." MOORE'S MINUTES INCREASE With injuries to Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler, E'Twaun Moore's minutes went up last week for the Chicago Bulls. In three games last week — against Oklahoma City, Indiana and San Antonio — Moore played at least 20 minutes, the first time this season he's had such a streak. The highlight was his Thursday night performance against the Thunder when he scored a career-high 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting and hit the game-winning three-pointer. He also helped force Russell West- brook to step out of bounds in the finals seconds to seal that victory. Moore told reporters after- ward that he doesn't think he has nerves, and he just saw it as mak- ing plays when the team needed him. "My job is to come in and help win games," Moore told Gold and Black. "Knocking down shots, play- ing defense, whatever it is. Every time I play, that's what I try to do. "I just try to stay ready, prepare for every game like I'm going to play a full game. That's how I stay ready." Moore hasn't played much in his first season in Chicago, rack- ing up 22 DNP-coach's decisions. Before last week, typically Moore would enter games mostly as a end-of-the-quarter defensive re- placement. Through Sunday's game against the Spurs — he made 4-of-6 shots for eight points and had two steals in 26 minutes — Moore is averaging 2.5 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists. Playing rarely isn't something Moore was accustomed to until he entered the NBA, but he's gained a reputation of being a professional in his approach and mentality. He said it can be difficult but he keeps working by "just staying focused on the goal, what you're trying to accomplish," he said. "I know at any moment, coach can put me in. With that being said, I've just got to be ready at all times. I just have to keep trying to get better myself, too. My career doesn't stop here this year. I have to get better for the future. So I just keep working. "Any opportunity I get to go in and showcase my skills, I try to take an advantage." j Chicago Bulls E'Twaun Moore has been called upon more often since recent injuries to the Bulls' back- court. He's on a stretch of three consecutive 20-minute-plus games, his longest such streak of the season. For daily headlines on recruiting and other Purdue sports news, check out
