GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 24 • 23 BY BRIAN NEUBERT BNeubert@GoldandBlack.com CLINE, WEATHERFORD WIN SECTIONALS Purdue signees Ryan Cline and Grant Weatherford were outstanding in leading Carmel and Hamilton Heights, respec- tively, to sectional championships, doing so in most dramatic fashion last weekend. Cline scored 32 points in his Greyhounds' 51-44 over- time championship win over Hamilton Southeastern on their home floor. The night prior, it took two overtimes for Carmel to shake off Fishers 56-48. With Matt Painter in the crowd, Cline went for 30, as he accounted for 62 of his team's 107 points in the two-game sectional. Carmel now heads to the 4A Marion Re- gional, where it'll play McCutcheon Saturday afternoon, hoping for a crack at a regional title that evening. Cline always puts up big scoring numbers, Weatherford not as much. But the Hamilton Heights guard and defen- sive pest has turned up his offense in the post- season. In a 55-52 double-overtime win over York- town in the championship game, Weatherford scored 22 points, with six rebounds and two steals. This came a day after he went for 28 points, five boards and three assists in a win over host Muncie Central. Hamilton Heights now heads to the 3A Blackford re- gional, where it'll play Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Saturday morning. Purdue 2016 commitment C.J. Walker scored 34 points in Indianapolis Tech's dramatic double-overtime sectional- opening win over Cathedral at Lawrence Central Friday night, including his team's game-tying three-point play in the sec- ond OT session, the go-ahead basket off a steal, then a pair of free throws to ice the 74-72 win. The next evening, though, Tech's season came to an end in a 67-46 loss to Lawrence North. Walker was held to just four points on three shots before fouling out. JUNIOR DAY VISITORS Purdue hosted its first of three junior day events Saturday for Class of 2016 football pros- pects, with more than 50 recruits visiting for the day. Among some of the notables: R Fort Wayne Homestead wide receiver Ben Skowronek: Purdue just offered the Home- stead wide receiver, who could also grow into a tight end. So have Iowa, Indiana and Cincinnati, among others, with many other major programs showing interest. R Georgia running back Kameron Pickett: Purdue seems genuinely interested early in the ball- carrier and anticipated early enrollee from Georgia state power North Gwinnett in Suwanee, Ga.
