GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 24 • 26 are perfect. Those drills, we're go- ing to try to gut you, we'll try to test your character a little bit. But these are more geared toward finishing with perfect plays when you're tired." OPENING UP For another spring under Ha- zell, all of Purdue's spring practices will be open to the public. Weekday practices are sched- uled to start at 3:30 p.m., and depending on the weather, will either be held indoors at Mol- lenkopf or at the outdoor Bimel facility. The kick scrimmage, jer- sey scrimmage and spring game will be at Ross-Ade Stadium. The scrimmage times are TBD, but the spring game is at 1 p.m. The spring practice dates are as follow: March 10, 11, 12, 24, 26, 28, 31, April 2, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 17 and 18. CAPITALIZING ON SHOT Raheem Mostert and Akeem Hunt showcased their speed at Purdue's pro day last week, and they're hoping that was just a piece of what intrigued NFL scouts who attended. Mostert's 4.32 40-yard dash, combined with 20 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press, a 40- inch vertical and an 11-foot broad jump was quite a testament to his physical prowess. After the test- ing, Mostert was asked to watch film with scouts and break down some of his football-related deci- sions, and that was something he was looking forward to. "(A scout) was telling me, 'We know you're fast, we see it on special teams, but we also need to understand why you were somewhat indecisive from the running back posi- tion. We just need to talk to you, see what was going on in your thought process,'" Mostert said. "That's one thing I can't wait to tell them. I'm going to tell them flat out, 'It's for this reason.' They see the speed, but they say 'You are fast, no doubt about it, but we need you to play that same speed the entire game, no mat- ter where you're at.' " Perhaps just as important to Mostert: Clocking faster than Hunt. It's been a constant back- and-forth between the good friends and former roommates just who is faster, and Mostert got that title with his fastest clocked 40 time ever, he said. Hunt was still pretty swift, though, finishing in 4.38. He also added a 37.5 vertical, 14 reps on the bench and 6.71 in the three- cone shuttle and 4.07 in the short shuttle. "I just wanted to prove that my all-around football (skills) are there: Quickness, getting in and out of cuts, my explosiveness," Hunt said. "I see myself as a utility back, a game changer. On third down, I can get the first down for you, a new set of chains. I feel myself being a dynamic threat in the NFL." Others who participated in the pro day: NFL Combine par - ticipant Ryan Russell, Brandon Cottom, Landon Feichter, Gabe Holmes, Dolapo Macarthy (lim- ited), Taylor Richards, Antoine Lewis, Charles Torwudzo, Jesse Schmitt, Joe Gilliam, Sean Robin- son (limited) and Justin Sinz. j Kyle Charters Akeem Hunt had a solid pro day last week inside Mollenkopf.
