GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 25 • 16 season finale. All told, the massive center has made just two of his last 11 shots. "I think he's got a chance to be great. He's got to learn from his mistakes. He's getting frustrated sometimes when things don't go his way," Painter said after the loss to Wisconsin. "We had a couple calls against him in Penn State that were borderline atrocious. … They crack him in the head in the Penn State game and then they call him for a foul. He's got to have a great offsea- son. I think the officials have to have a great offseason, too, because he's different, man, he is 7-2, 300 pounds and he's trying to keep position and he's keeping his arms up and he's legal most of the time. But they have to learn how to officiate him because those guys can`t keep him from where he wants to get and still be in legal guarding position. "But I think the whole body of work, he's not going to grow until he can get that frustration away and not be able to get so down on himself when he doesn't get a call. He had a point-blank lay-up (that he missed against Wiscon - sin). He went to get fouled. You've got to go to score that and take that guy with you." STEPHENS MAKING SHOTS As much as sopho- more Kendall Stephens has struggled this sea- son, he is closing the season on a relatively positive note as a shooter. In Purdue's past six games, he is 12 of 26 from three-point territo- ry, bringing his season percentage to just below 40 percent. In the Big Ten Tournament, he made a three at the first half to trim an 11-point deficit down to just five at the break. Against Wisconsin, he was 3-for-3 from long distance. PAINTER WINS CHARITY CHALLENGE A late push over the weekend helped Painter edge out Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg and win the In- finiti Coaches' Charity Challenge. In getting 47 percent of the vote — Hoiberg had 46 percent — Painter won $100,000 for his char- ity, the Smith Family BReaK Thru Fund. j #1 Wisconsin #4 Purdue #2 Maryland #3 Mich.
