38 INDIE / ROCK guestlist.net Issue 73 / 2015 Britpop is back! Blur have reunited for their first new record since 2003's Think Tank. The Magic Whip, released on April 27, contains those tracks Blur fans have been waiting for since the group's recording session in Hong Kong in 2013. The group have also unleashed new single 'Go Out' and its video, which features a Chinese woman making ice cream. And if that wasn't quite enough, they've also announced that they will be playing Hyde Park on June 20th for Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time. This flurry of activity leaves one question begging though – could a Glasto slot be on the cards? Artist Of the MOnth Blur Blur announce a new single, video, album and gig! The Brighton four piece formed back in 2010, drawing influence from the sounds of Manchester Orchestra, Death Cab For Cutie and Diamond Youth. Slick production, concise arrangements, anthemic vocal hooks, and their obvious passion resulted in an increasing amount of media attention. After pigeonholing their sound, Glass City Vice released the EP Waves. Catching the attention of XYZ Magazine, they were praised for their impressionable hooks, competency as songwriters and attention to detail. Their new single 'Landslide' opens with an instantly catchy guitar riff before striking with blasts of heavy tones. Josh's vocals glide soulfully over the top and intertwine with the guitar melodies. 'Landslide' showcases the band's hard work ethic. They've spent over a year crafting their new sound, letting their more musical and perhaps stranger influences run wild in their songwriting. These guys offer a unique take on the Brighton rock scene and are definitely ones to watch. Continuing the momentum of an extremely successful 2014, which included featuring on Iggy Azalea's #1 hit 'Fancy', reaching number one with Icona Pop's 'I Love It', and earning UK top 20/US top 40 success with her album Sucker, Charli XCX is heading up a few of her own shows before joining Katy Perry's Prismatic World Tour as the opening act. These shows, kicking off on the 25th March at the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire and running through to 2nd April at the Institute Library in Birmingham, could really prove to be something else in an already impressive career.
