48 Issue 73 / 2015 guestlist.net Artist/Album of the month DrAke - if You're reADing this it's too lAte After dropping a sensational mixtape out of the blue, who else could it be but Drake? ones to WAtch Ain't no love Canadian electro hip-hop group Ain't No Love drop new EP Plummet Ain't No Love – rappers Roland "1990" Broere and Elias "Beanz" McBean, and singer Saidah Conrad – blend hip- hop, electronic beats and smooth R&B vocals to create unique and original music. It's not hard, quick-fire spitting but driving basslines and strong synth beats add a different kind of power to the rhymes. Their sound was formed in the clubs and on the streets of Montreal, and the group's appeal has expanded from their hometown thanks to their notoriously high-energy live shows. The group's live talents have led them to share the stage with artists such as Iggy Azalea, Steve Aoki, Redman and Calvin Harris. They've played industry showcases like SXSW and have been featured n MTV, Billboard and Majestic Casual. Their new EP Plummet perfectly encompasses this energy and these strong six tracks are a great statement of Ain't No Love's philosophy. The drug-driven lyrics showcase Ain't No Love's fearlessness – the band embrace rather than shy away from the taboo. 'Pussy Down' demonstrates this boldness as they flip the standard expectations of hip- hop on their head. The simple hook on 'High Right Now' is a serious earworm and the track is expertly layered with beats, Saidah's silky vocals, and Beanz and 1990's bars. With the help of expert producers like Avenue, Rich Kidd, Nightizm and Cam Bluff, Ain't No Love have created an effortless blend of house, electronica and hip-hop. They perfectly mix the danceability of club music and the lyrical quality of great rap. As Royce Da 5'9" said, "Our thing is to teach people how to not skim through the albums because their attention span is short. I want people to appreciate the fact that we didn't compromise in lieu of the environment. In order to try to change the way that people digest music, we had to take a leap of faith." Drake has also managed to make history by having 14 of the tape's tracks chart on the Billboard Hot 100 – the only other time this ever happened was back in April 1964, with a little band called The Beatles.
