INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Sitting Down With Freshman Forward Kam Chatman College basketball has been a tougher transition than expected for former five-star and current Michigan forward Kam Chatman. He averaged 3.6 points in 15.2 minutes per game, while shooting 31.8 percent from the floor. We talked with the freshman about the adjustment and the future during the Big Ten Tournament in Chicago. The Wolverine: You've made the decision to stay this spring and sum- mer to work with [strength coach] Jon Sanderson — "Camp Sanderson" it's been called, because it's pretty tough … Chatman: "Yeah, I've heard about it [laughs]. But it's about getting bet- ter. That's what I'm really trying to focus on, trying to be the best I can be coming into next season. It's been tough, but working hard will pay off. It's hard to be patient, but you have to believe things will fall in place. I know that I can play." The Wolverine: You seemed to be yourself again in the [64-57] win over Ohio State [Feb. 22], scoring six points in one stretch, and followed up with seven in 20 minutes against Maryland. How big a step was that for you? Chatman: "I just tried to bring en- ergy, rebound, do what I know I can do — look for people, hit my jump shots and do what I've been doing my whole life. I know the coaches Chatman averaged 3.6 points in 15.2 minutes per game during his rookie season in Ann Arbor. PHOTO BY PER KJELDSEN
