From the Editor contributors High-Frequency Holidays by now, you've probably been busy making your holiday shopping lists, and possibly even checking off the items that you've already scooped up. At Northshore, we've been working feverishly to compile the items that we're coveting—either for with our first issue in 2012, we'll be bring- ing you eight issues of Northshore, rather than our usual six. Sure, things have been a bit more hectic here in our office, but this change of pace for us is a welcome reflec- tion on the flurry of activity that's happen- ing around the North Shore. Every day, it seems, we're hearing about new businesses that have opened, restaurants that are drawing rave reviews, organizations that are inspiring much-needed changes in their communities, and denizens of this area who are making an impact in their own ways. We just didn't have enough pages to fill with all of those incredible— and entertaining—stories. So, be sure to keep an eye out for your January/February issue—it won't be long! But first, back to the issue at—or rather ourselves or for those on our own lists— and that we think your friends and family will love, too. You can see the complete collection, our annual Holiday Gift Guide, beginning on page 19. Tip: You might want to have a pencil handy (or your smart- phone, or whatever tool you use to keep such info organized), as your shopping list is likely to grow after perusing those pages. But in addition to assembling this ulti- mate list and the rest of our Holiday Issue, we've been even busier than usual for this time of the year. The reason? Beginning 12 nshoremag.com December/Holiday 2011 in—hand. In addition to our gift guide, our 2011 Holiday Issue is rife with things related to the festive season, from the Agenda (page 50), which is a veritable guide to area celebrations and events, to our feature story about chef Frank McClel- land, whose at-home holiday brunch might inspire your own entertaining plans ("Now Serving Brunch," page 128). And because the holidays—fun as they are—can be hec- tic, we tasked freelance writer Alexandra Pecci with rounding up a selection of spa and salon services around the North Shore that'll help temper the symptoms of stress. I hope this issue will prove helpful dur- ing the holidays, whether you use it to plan an outing, prepare an important meal, or figure out where to finish your shopping. However you choose to enjoy it, thanks for reading. Happy holidays, and have a happy, healthy New Year. We'll see you (more of- ten!) in 2012. —Lindsay Lambert, Editor Andrew Conway Freelance journalist Conway, who wrote about Lynnfield and Stuart Weitzman for this issue, has worked for newspapers and magazines in the U.K. and Australia and is now based in Boston. "I had no idea Lynnfield ("History Lesson," page TK) had such a fascinating history dating back to the American Revolution and beyond, nor did I realize Haverhill has a unique connection with Hollywood until I interviewed Stuart Weitzman ("Head Over Heels," page 136). There's a story on every street corner." Regina Cole Cole writes about archi- tecture and design from her home in Gloucester. Her work appears in The Old-House Journal, Design New England, Arts and Crafts Homes, and other shelter magazines. She especially loves historic archi- tecture, which made the Gloucester home of Kathy Hamilos ("No Place Like Home," page 150) an especially enjoyable project for her. "I know people who grew up in this house," she says. "So I loved to see it renovated so sensitively." Joe Keller Photographer Keller of Kel- ler & Keller ("Now Serving Brunch," page 128) special- izes in food, lifestyle, and interiors. Keller lives on the South Shore with his wife Amy and their two kids. His clients include Boston magazine, Cook's Coun- try, Food & Wine, Williams Sonoma, Cooking Light and Food Network magazine. Janine Maggiore A stylist for more than 10 years, Maggiore, who styled "O Christmas Tree" (page 140), has worked for Ameri- can Express, Timberland, Reebok, Men's Health, Natick Collection, New Line Cin- ema, the Boston Globe Magazine, and Universal Pictures. "My favorite part of winter dressing is layering, mixing classic plaids and knits with more modern silhouettes," Maggiore says. See more of her work at ennisinc.com.
