The stunning cover was what made me buy the issue, and the inside story was beautiful. Every year, my mother-in-law cans her own rhubarb jam for friends and relatives. This year, I'm going to show her up with my own canned pear chutney! The recipe was easy to follow, and spot on. The basil ice cubes seem pretty neat, too, and a great way to make use of my overgrown basil plants. Thanks! P. Mona, Newburyport, via email I love the article on canning and preserv- ing food in the October/November issue that just showed up on our doorstep! Amy Stromberg Kreydin, via Facebook Grateful Spectrum The Spectrum Adult Day Health Pro- grams in North Andover and Beverly 14 nshoremag.com December/Holiday 2011 would like to express our deepest grati- tude to Northshore magazine for getting the word out about how our services can be a vital link for supporting people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and the people that love them. Spectrum is a unique, not-for-profit program that provides a specialized and supportive daytime environment for hundreds of people afflicted by Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders each year, but we also provide critical support and resources to family caregivers. Our Bev- erly Program has been serving the North Shore for nearly 20 years, and in April of 2011, we opened a second program in North Andover. Offering a cost effective and practical option, Spectrum enables those with memory disorders to maintain independence and remain in their own homes for as long as possible. The only adult day health centers in the region rec- ognized by the Alzheimer's Association for our commitment to staff education, Spectrum's goal is to provide our clients with fulfilling daytime activities while maximizing their quality of life. The operation of a not-for profit organization creates a special set of chal- lenges and opportunities, but in these times of shrinking resources, we are appreciative of Northshore magazine's commitment to providing information to the community it serves. Thank you again to Northshore for your generous support of Spectrum's mission. Darcey Lepisto Adams, LICSW, Director of Community Programs, Northeast Senior Health, via email Good Design I loved your story about Mariposa [Oc- tober/November]. My family and I have many of their designs in our home, and it's nice to know that this local company was built on such a solid foundation. I also love that they care so much about the environment. I'll definitely be buying more Mariposa products, for myself and as gifts for my friends, to show my support for their work and philosophies. J. Goodman, Newton, via email Style Cents It is great to finally see fall fashion pieces together that I can actually afford and wear ["Silver and Gold," October/Novem- ber, page 34]. Like any fashionable girl, I appreciate high-end designers, however, appreciating and being realistic are two different things. I love to see fashion that will not kill my bank account. The pieces really capture what I am looking for this fall and embody what I can wear for the upcoming holidays. The clutch from Urban is to die for and I cannot wait to get my hands on it. Well done, as always Northshore magazine." Brittany Nolan, Beverly, via email $ share your thoughts on this issue of northshore nshore mag.com P RESERVATION SOCIETY
