2  IDAHO FALLS PARKS & REC SPRING/SUMMER 2015 We are excited about our city's 150th anniversary this year! We can't wait to celebrate our heritage by offering fun, family- friendly community events and activities throughout the year. When the Taylor Bridge opened in May 1865, a vital link between Salt Lake City and gold camps in Montana was estab- lished. The railroad arrived 14 years later, bringing many of the people who would go on to build this fledgling city, which by 1891, took the name of Idaho Falls. Our IF150 celebration will honor the vision of these early pioneers who made this place an oasis of commerce and prosperity for the entire region. You will find a schedule of IF150 events in this guide as well as on the IF150 Facebook page and at www.if150.com. Making the next 150 years even better means taking an active interest in our health. This year Idaho Falls has partnered with Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and Mountain View Hospital to offer Live Well Idaho Falls, an educational series fea- turing community experts discussing important topics to inspire and empower all of us to improve our health. You can find more information and the schedule of Live Well Idaho Falls seminars on the city's website or on Facebook. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the Idaho Falls Rotary Club's Great Snake River Greenbelt Duck Race, an event which has generated approximately $2 million in greenbelt improvements and expansions over the years. As always, the staff members and volunteers in the Parks & Recreation Division are hard at work providing opportunities to make an active lifestyle even more accessible. Here are just a few examples: • Movies in the Park will take place the last Friday of each month from May to Sept. A "Dinner & Movie" event will be added this year. • The west side of the greenbelt, from Broadway to HWY-20, will receive much-needed upgrades. • Bike Month (May) includes a Mayors' Bike Ride and bike chal- lenge for elementary school students. • Fun annual events including Chukars' baseball games, 4th of July celebrations, the War Bonnet Rodeo, Duck Race, Farmers Market, horse races at Sandy Downs and outdoor concerts are sure to entertain our community all summer. • New lighting will extend skate time at the Skate Park located in Tautphaus Park. • Baseball, softball, tennis, football, swim lessons, skateboard clinics and so much MORE! Be healthy. Be active. Enjoy Idaho Falls!
