60 | Ignitemag.ca | April | May 2015 Canada Oh Canada With its rich history, fabled maritime charm and vibrant culture, Halifax is sure to enchant attendees. And its ever- growing offering of venues, accommodations and attractions will make planners pretty happy too. The recently opened SilverBirch Conference Centre, bookended by two hotels, offers 4,900 sq. ft. of flexible meet- ing space and a total of 316 guestrooms. And in January 2017, The Halifax Convention Centre will unveil 120,000 sq. ft. of flexible event space plus a luxury hotel. In May, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 will reopen after extensive renovations that include new exhibits and event spaces. But all that new development doesn't take away from the city's deep heritage. Immerse your delegates in the history of the city at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, one of Canada's most visited National Historic Sites. The venue can accommodate dinners, receptions, outdoor concerts and meetings. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic also offers event space, as well as housing what is said to be the worlds' best collection of wooden Titanic artifacts. After taking in all that history, delegates can enjoy a pint at one of the city's many microbreweries, see live music at a host of pubs or browse the charming shops in the hip neighbourhoods of Spring Garden Road and The Hydrostone. And no visit to Halifax is complete without a delectable lobster dinner. In fact, delegates can even buy lobster at the airport and have it packaged as a carry-on so they can bring home true maritime flavour.
