April 1, 2015 Dear Members, As we come out of one of the coldest winters on record we are all looking forward to the opening of the golf course. It is ironic that the last line of my letter in February announced, "let's hope Mother Nature doesn't throw us a curve" for the day my letter was published we had one of the biggest snow storms of the year! The good news about all the snow, I am told, is that snow provides a nice blanket to protect the grass vs. the ice we had last year. Recently, Dean Baker and I toured the golf course. To this untrained eye, it appears to be in very good shape and Dean assures me we are 1,000 times better at this time than we were at the same time last year. Although we cannot predict the future weather and therefore what day the course will open, rest assured Dean and his crew will be doing everything they can to get the course ready and opened as early as possible. Winter tree removal has been completed. Stump removal and cleanup of the tree removal areas will be done before the course opens. Dean will be sodding stump areas this year as opposed to the seeding in the past because sod will establish quicker. Final renovation work to finish the new 11th and 14th tees plus the sodding of the cart path edges should be completed in mid to late April. The new tees will open in early June. Just as maintenance of the golf course is critical, so is the maintenance of our clubhouse which is entering its eighth summer. Recently, the clubhouse received a new coat of paint and new carpet has been laid as well. I am confident you will be pleased with the results. The paint and carpet will provide a wonderful back drop for the 47 weddings we have booked for this year. Just as one season is about to open another comes to a close. The 2014-2015 curlers enjoyed another successful year and curling continues to be an integral part of our club. This year we had 550 Adult curling members and 50 Junior curlers….. Kudos to Wayne Gratton and his team for running the best curling facility in South Western Ontario. At the February Board meeting the Directors approved the continuation of our Trial Membership program which is entering its fourth year. We will be offering 30 Trial Memberships this year. Over the first three years 61 golfers have kicked tires at our club and 41 have become
