I t would be perhaps understand- able for the Wolverines women's tennis team to approach their next Big Ten dual match with a ho-hum attitude. Beating Michigan State 7-0 April 10, Michigan has won 26 consecutive conference regular-season matchups dating back to the 2013 season, and with potential wins over Ohio State April 17 and Penn State April 19, the Maize and Blue can inch closer to the 31 straight Big Ten victories they rattled off from 2009-12. But the Wolverines refuse to idle through matches, knowing there are legacies still to be written, banners to be hung and NCAA breakthroughs waiting to be realized. "It doesn't get old to keep win- ning," said senior Emina Betkas, the program's all-time leader in singles victories (123). "And the thing we think about a lot is our season a year ago didn't end the way we wanted it to — we didn't make the Sweet 16, so we are using that as a motivating factor. "We also have three freshmen, so we've had to teach them the ropes. "We're very hungry. Our goal is to win the Big Ten Tournament because that's also something that has evaded us during my career. Then we want to make it back to the Sweet 16, and see what we can do after that, so we have a lot we're working towards." Michigan has been the Big Ten's dominant program over the last de- cade, winning five regular-season conference championships, with three runner-up performances and a pair of third-place finishes. However, nationally, U-M has not advanced be- yond the Sweet 16 during head coach Ronni Bernstein's first seven seasons.   OLYMPIC SPORTS Women's Tennis Is Cruising Toward Another Big Ten Title Senior Emina Betkas is the U-M women's tennis program's all-time leader in singles victories with 123.
