S ince the first spring practice ses- sion alone (Feb. 24), the Michigan coaching staff has offered 70 new prospects in the 2016-18 classes. While many of them may not ultimately consider Michigan, the Wolverines have thrown their hat in the ring for some of the best players in the nation. In the 2016 class, Michigan has set its sights high — and early returns are that many of the top prospects will strongly consider the Maize and Blue. The nation's No. 2 overall prospect, Marlon Davidson of Greenville (Ala.) High doesn't have any natural con- nections to the Great Lakes State, but plans to check out Ann Arbor over the summer. The 6-3, 279-pound defen- sive end may be most likely to remain in his home state at either Alabama or Auburn, but U-M has had some success in his home state the past two classes (cornerback Keith Washington in 2015 and running back Kingston Davis in 2016), and will pursue the top talent available. Sights are set similarly high in 2017. Early five-stars Calvin Ashley, a 6-7, 270-pound offensive tackle from Or- lando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips: Najee Har- ris, a 6-2, 222-pound running back from Antioch (Calif.) High; Darnay Holmes, a 5-11, 185-pound defensive back/athlete from Newbury Park (Calif.) High; and Devon Hunter, a 6-2, 212-pound safety from Chesa- peake (Va.) Indian River are among the early offers since Harbaugh ar- rived in town. The coaching staff has even looked to the class of 2018, issuing offers to a pair of big-time offensive linemen. Memphis (Tenn.) Germantown Acad- emy tackle Will Lawrence is a 6-4,   MICHIGAN RECRUITING Chasing The Best Defensive end Marlon Davidson of Greenville (Ala.) High, the nation's No. 2 overall prospect in the class of 2016, plans to check out Ann Arbor over the summer. PHOTO COURTESY RIVALS.COM
