Although the language in the bill has since been clarified, after it became apparent that it could be used as a tool to discriminate, particularly against LGBT people, it's still a pretty bullshit idea. However, enterprising Indiana resident Bill Levin has used the new law to excellent effect by setting up the First Church of Cannabis. The church is based on "love and understanding with compassion for all", perfectly encapsulated by their first commandment "Don't be an asshole." The church won't buy or sell weed but will grow hemp, and cannabis is, of course, the sacrament. Although both medical and recreational use of marijuana is illegal in Indiana, because the church celebrates cannabis in a religious way, it could be protected under the religious freedom law. Levin is raising money to secure a property and donations to the church currently sit at over $8000.
