Ranch riding vacations don't have
to be all about roughing it anymore.
Take a tour of three destinations built
around "five-spur" style and service.

PICTURE IT: e sun dips low in the sky as you sip wine in a hot tub over-
looking a herd of horses. ey're happily grazing against the backdrop of the
beautiful, rugged landscape you've just spent all day riding through, and you're
sharing laughs and recollections with the riders around you, many of whom
have traveled from all over the globe. Dinner will be ready in a few more min-
utes, but for now you just kick back, relax, and pass the bottle one more time.
is is the life.
Now don't get me wrong—I will always respect the time-honored tradition
of roughing it; I've done my fair share and then some of tenting it after 13-hour
days in the saddle.
But after my first post-ride, pre-dinner hot tub experience at e Hideout
Lodge & Guest Ranch in Shell, Wyo., two years ago, I was hooked. Since
then I've sought out two more such adventures, at Rancho Las Cascadas in
Mexico and at Colorado's C Lazy U Ranch—each with its own charm and
unique twist on ranch life—and it's hard to choose which of the three to return
to first.
