Nearly seven decades later, Lovely Cottage's dilapidated stable would also defy the odds and go through its own resurrection. Ingeniously reimagined by the architects at AR Design Studio in Winchester, Hampshire, it's been reborn as a contemporary three- bedroom, two-bath home. And in a nod to the barn's fabled inhabitant, what was once Manor House Sta- bles is now itself known as Lovely Cottage. While working on a renovation of the main building on the property, architect Andy Ramus was A fter a five-year hiatus during the height of World War II, the 100th running of the Grand National on April 5, 1946, marked more than just a return to normalcy in Britain—it was a truly joyous occasion. Half a million jubilant, war-weary spectators descended on Aintree Racecourse that sunny spring day to witness, among the field of 34 starters, a 25-1 long shot called Lovely Cottage crossing the wire first in a nail-biting conclusion of England's most famous steeplechase.
