A guy comes through the zone in the deep hooks in the passing game — they've got to pay a toll, they've got to get hit. We've got to be physical the right way through that area and we've got to start from the middle and branch out. Because we know on the perimeter that we have some corners that we could do some things with." No surprise, then, that having a productive offseason in the weight room is at the top of Hudson's sum- mer wish list. Adding strength is crucial, Hudson said, in making the jump from sim- ply sustaining and taking on blocks to getting off them and finishing plays. A 380-pound bencher should strain to get to 400, he said, and there should be a group of 25 guys who hit that mark. They'll need to do that, though, while also staying in top condition to keep up with the uptempo offenses. A 4.6 40-yard runner should strain to get to 4.52, he said. "You know when you're living a lie. You know when you're in shape," Hudson said. "You ought to be able to run like the wind with the multiple offenses you see. Conditioning super- sedes everything. We've got to be in great condition, not just able to run a handful of sprints back-and-forth, you've got to be in run-all-day condi- tion. And then I think we've really got to get another step stronger. "We've got to take a great step this summer and really, really get jacked up and strong."
