GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 25, ISSUE 5 39 VOLUME 25, ISSUE 5 39 By fine-tuning his throwing mechanics, shortening his stroke to get rid of that baseball pitcher motion, and focusing on getting the ball out of his hand quickly, Austin Apple- by's accuracy was good this spring. Unofficially, he checked in at 63 percent accuracy during team periods. He also didn't have many miscues, throwing only two intercep- tions during team periods over the 15 practices, including the jersey scrimmage and spring game. He seems even more mature and poised in the pocket, too. Tight End 1. Jordan Jurasevich 85 6-3, 250, Sr. (5) 2. Cole Herdman 88 6-4, 243, R-Fr. Right Tackle 1. Jordan Roos 70 6-4, 312, Jr. 2. Joey Warburg 77 6-5, 285, Jr. Right Guard 1. Martesse Patterson 74 6-3, 345, R-Fr. 2. Jordan Roos 70 6-4, 312, Jr. Center 1. Robert Kugler 57 6-3, 294, Sr. (5) 2. Kirk Barron 53 6-1, 305, R-Fr. Left Guard 1. Jason King 72 6-4, 305, Jr. 2. Corey Clements 71 6-8, 420, Sr. Left Tackle 1. David Hedelin 75 6-4, 298, Sr. 2. Bearooz Yacoobi 51 6-5, 297, R-Fr. Offense Running Back 1. D.J. Knox 27 5-7, 197, So. 2. Keyante Green 23 5-9, 219, So. Quarterback 1. Austin Appleby 12 6-5, 239, Jr. 2. David Blough 11 6-1, 202, R-Fr. Wide Receiver 1. Cameron Posey 18 6-1, 183, Jr. 2. Trae Hart 15 5-10, 168, So. Wide Receiver 1. DeAngelo Yancey 7 6-2, 223, Jr. 2. Anthony Mahoungou 21 6-3, 207, So. Wide Receiver 1. Gregory Phillips 20 6-0, 190, So. 2. Bilal Marshall 14 6-2, 195, Jr. After struggling when being thrown into a significant role last season, Gregory Phillips was much more settled this spring, in his knowledge of the playbook, understanding of routes and general comfort level with the offense. It showed up. He was decisive, fast and played with more confidence. Just as important, he seemingly hardly dropped passes. Phillips' strong hands and willingness to fight for balls in the air could have him as a guy who's hard to take off the field in the fall. Last season, David Hedelin was trying to "survive." The Swede struggled with communication and to adjust to position coach Jim Bridge's pass blocking tech- niques. There was no sign of that this spring. Hedelin appears to have progressed considerably, using his strength to clear out defensive ends to open holes in the run game but also learning how to finish blocks better and making strides at keeping players off his edge. — Stacy Clardie
