Speaking of never, there likely
never will be another player
who wanted to win more for his
coach than Brian Cardinal did for
Keady. In this image taken after the Boilermakers' heart-
breaking Elite Eight loss to Wisconsin in Albuquerque,
N.M., Cardinal was slowly coming to grips with the notion
that not only his season was over but his college career
had ended as well. One thing seems likely, however, this
loss sticks with Cardinal to this day.

Much like Bob Mitchell's endur-
ing image of Coach Jack Mol-
lenkopf standing with the rose
outside the locker room after
clinching the Rose Bowl in Minneapolis in 1966, photog-
rapher Tom Campbell snapped the defining picture of the
Boilermakers' 2000 Rose Bowl season. On that freezing
cold night, it seemed like there were 100,000 fans in
Ross-Ade Stadium to enjoy the magical moment. Yes,
winning the Bucket from IU was the furthest thing from
the minds of the Boilermaker fan base, but making travel
plans for Pasadena were the closest.
