GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 25, ISSUE 5 57 It's one of the few questions this offseason, aside from maybe shooting, which was disappointing in 2014-15 even though it was ex- pected to shift from deficiency to relative strength. Purdue shot 32 percent col- lectively from three-point range, same as the year before, and went 4-of-26 against Cincinnati in a game in which 5-of-26 would have meant advancing. The Boilermakers have to sim- ply hope that Kendall Stephens (38 percent) and Mathias (32 percent) find their strokes with health and experience, respectively, on their sides and that maybe freshman sharpshooter Ryan Cline can con- tribute immediately. It's a backhanded compliment, but Purdue will likely be a better shooting team next season simply because it can't be worse. If point guard gets settled and the shooting improves, the Boiler- makers would seem to have most of the pieces, if not all of them, in place to be very good season, a top-25 caliber team, it would seem, though headed into a season in which the Big Ten projects to be stacked. Experience matters, too. "We're still a young team, but not as young," Edwards said. "Even though we're young, we have great experience. "Everybody on this team still has a great upside and none us ever felt like we had a game last year when we all clicked together. We think this can be a really great year for us." As important as the experience is the standard. After a pair of seasons in which losing seemed far more palatable than it was for teams prior, Purdue set a higher standard for itself this past winter and now aims to move it even higher now. "Tasting that success, I think it fuels us even more," Mathias said. "And getting to the Tourna- ment, we really should have won that game. We know we're capable of getting to that point and going even farther. "That's definitely going to fuel us this summer." j PURDUE P E R S O N A L I Z E D P R I N t Gold and Black • 2605 Yeager Road • West Lafayette, IN 47906 • 1-800-876-4678 Visit the store at GoldandBlackDigital.com for this and other great Purdue Fan items! o My check or money order made payable to GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED is enclosed. o Please charge to my: o Visa o MasterCard o American Express o Discover Card No._________________________________________________ Exp.
