GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 25, ISSUE 5 7
Since arriving at Purdue, Coach Darrell Hazell
has been a big supporter of the Purdue Center
for Cancer Research, participating as the
spokesperson for the Purdue Challenge 5K Run/
Walk. As a show of support to survivors, Hazell
had the Gold and Black teams at the spring
game enter the field from the opposite locker
rooms, joined arm-in-arm by those who have
won personal battles. The line spanned the width
of the south end zone, several rows deep. Here,
David Yancey (28) escorts a determined Sharon
Morphew (his right) and Linda Porick on to the
field. The Purdue Challenge 5K Run/Walk, held
earlier that morning, enjoyed a record day in
fundraising and participation. In the eight years
of The Purdue Challenge, it has raised more than
$500,000 for cancer research done on campus and
has had nearly 12,000 participants.
