front: Researchers in Dr. Helen McNeill's
lab study Drosophila melanogaster
(commonly known as the fruit fly)
to understand how cell growth and
differentiation are regulated, a process
that is essential for fertility. Specifically,
Dr. McNeill's team is investigating a
protein found in the male reproductive
system of fruit flies, mice and humans.
Mutations in this protein may lead
to infertility in humans. Pictured: a
developing stem cell niche of the male
Drosophila reproductive system.
