FROM OUR READERS • There seems to be a growing sentiment since spring ball that the coaches are displeased with the talent on this team, and us beaten/scorned fans are lapping it right up. I'm going to let you all in on a secret. This woefully talented roster (finally) came ready to play and went toe to toe with the national champions last year. Tied 21-21 in the third quarter. In their building. De- spite a mentally demolished quarterback spotting them seven out of the gate. After that spotted seven until the mid fourth quarter, Michigan was physically beating OSU. All over the field. Also remember, it was in late November. OSU was as moti- vated as a team could possi- bly be, playing their rival, and trying to land a playoff spot. This was not an "overlook" situ- ation. The same OSU team that systematically demolished Wisconsin, Alabama and Or- egon its next three games. It was the same team that shoved around MSU's vaunted defense a month earlier. That woefully untalented roster that took the field in C-Bus has lost a mess of a quarterback, a hobbled and checked-out stud wide receiver, Jake Ryan and nothing else of significance. It has gained a fifth-year senior MIKE linebacker who can play, the best safety in the conference, a fully healthy Jake Butt (com- ing off a full offseason), a good punter, a solid fifth-year corner, a five-star stud running back and a competent fifth-year starting quarterback. Oh yeah, there's that new coaching staff that's probably the best in the country. So, you're going to have to forgive me if I don't buy into the "we're screwed this year because we don't have any talent" thing. Carry on.
